Dr Sarah Gleeson

Respiratory and Sleep Physician

Dr Sarah Gleeson commenced her private practice as a Respiratory and Sleep Specialist on-site at St Andrews Hospital in March 2018. Her areas of interest include airways disease including COPD and asthma, emphysema, interstitial lung diseases, bronchiectasis, pneumonia and other pulmonary infections. Dr Gleeson has experience with a range of sleep conditions including obstructive sleep apnoea and more complex disorders including obesity hypoventilation syndrome, respiratory failure, narcolepsy, and respiratory muscle weakness.


She undertook her advanced training in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane. Most recently, Dr Gleeson completed her Sleep Fellowship at Greenslopes Private Hospital. Since attaining Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2016, Dr Gleeson has also worked on the Sunshine Coast as a Respiratory and Sleep Physician.


Dr Gleeson specialises in the diagnosis and management of various Respiratory and Sleep concerns including:

  • Assessment and management of dyspnoea, cough, and other respiratory complaints;
  • Assessment and management of pleural disease, including pleural ultrasound and diagnostic and therapeutic thoracocentesis;
  • Timely assessment and diagnosis of suspected lung cancer;
  • Interventional bronchoscopy skills including endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) and transbronchial node aspiration (important for diagnosing and staging primary and secondary lung malignancies);
  • Assessment and management of patients with tiredness, suspected obstructive sleep apnoea and suspected respiratory muscle weakness;
  • Respiratory function testing, interpretation, and reporting; and
  • Sleep study interpretation and reporting including full Diagnostic PSG, CPAP titration, MSLT and MWT.

Dr Ashleigh Cruickshank

Respiratory and Sleep Physician

Dr Cruickshank is a Respiratory and Sleep Physician who will be practicing onsite from the medical suites of Dr Sarah Gleeson. Dr Cruickshank consults in all aspects of Sleep Medicine with a particular interest in obstructive sleep apnoea and complex sleep disorders including obesity hypoventilation syndrome, respiratory failure and respiratory muscle weakness.


Dr Cruickshank is pleased to return to Toowoomba after completing her specialist training in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane and Townsville University Hospital. Following this, she completed her Sleep Medicine Fellowship at The Prince Charles Hospital, Brisbane.



After attaining her Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians she is delighted to practice in Toowoomba where she also currently holds a public appointment as a Staff Specialist at the Toowoomba Hospital.



Dr Simon Slader

Respiratory and Sleep Physician

Dr Slader completed Respiratory Medicine Advanced Training at the Prince Charles Hospital, the Princess Alexandra Hospital and the Mater Hospital South Brisbane. He was awarded fellowship of the RACP in 2021. He subsequently completed a fellowship in Sleep Medicine at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in 2022. 


Dr Slader has an interest and expertise in the assessment and management of all respiratory and sleep disorders including: COPD, asthma, bronchiectasis, interstitial lung disease, lung cancer, pulmonary nodules, chronic cough, pleural effusion, sleep apnoea, narcolepsy, insomnia and idiopathic hypersomnolence. He is proficient in bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, intercostal catheter insertion and interpretation of complex respiratory function test, polysomnograthy and vigilance tests.


Given his rural upbringing in central Queensland and having lived in multiple regional centres, Dr Slader is delighted to commence practice in Toowoomba and provide care to the Darling Downs community.
